1095 High Carbon Steel Daisho Shirasaya Set
This stunning shirasaya daisho set is comprised of both Katana and Wakizashi forged in 1095 High carbon steel and clay tempered with a beautiful custom hammon pattern & polish on both blades.
The Shirasaya was traditionally used during the feudal period to store blades in times of peace or non conflict - as if kept in their battle saya, katana would over time gain moisture due to not being able to breathe through the lacquer and therefore rust faster.
These Shirasaya were used to mount the blades when times of war were not needed , to keep the blade in peak condition within the home during the rest period.
The blade pictured features a custom clay tempered hammon along the whole length of the blade and no bo-hi
(lightening groove) making it a fuller feeling weighted blade, sharpened and live.
The Saya and Tsuka absolutely beautiful and made completely of redwood which has been handcrafted & shaped to perfection.
The Tsuka on each featuring two mekugi pins to keep the blade tight and also fitted with buffalo horn on the koiguchi (saya mouth) to prevent damage and secure fit.
